88,088 persons receive second dose of COVID-19 vaccines

The second dose of the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 88,088 persons in the country.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 24,896 persons received the second dose of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine on Saturday, and a total of 85,653 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine to date.

While frontline workers from health, military and Police units are first in line to receive the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 3,445 persons were vaccinated on 28 April, 19,474 persons were vaccinated on 29 April, and 37,838 persons were vaccinated on 30 April.

Administration of the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine for Chinese nationals working in Sri Lanka began on 27 April and 1,693 persons were vaccinated that day. The following day, 742 persons received the second dose.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,435 of the 2,865 Chinese nationals vaccinated in Sri Lanka have received the second dose of Sinopharm.
