735 more test positive for COVID-19 over the weekend

  • Total patient count rises to 85,695, triple clusters exceed 81,000 patients

A total of 735 persons tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, including 359 patients detected yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 321 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and 16 persons from the Prisons cluster. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons clusters have thus increased to 81,430.

On Saturday, 376 persons tested positive for COVID-19, of which 83 were from Gampaha, 55 were from Ratnapura, 49 were from Colombo, 27 were from Kalutara, and 27 were from Galle.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 28,488 persons from Colombo District, 16,920 persons from Gampaha District, 6,275 persons from Kalutara District, 4,012 persons from Kandy District, and 2,412 persons from Kurunegala District have tested positive for COVID-19 to date. The country’s total COVID-19 patient count currently stands at 85,695. This includes 2,145 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 184 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 3,139 persons are currently under medical care at various hospitals. This includes 220 persons at the Hambantota District General Hospital, 182 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 182 persons at the Kahawatte Treatment Centre. A total of 361 persons are also being observed over suspicions of having contracted the virus. Hospitals yesterday discharged 290 persons, including 26 persons from the Rambukkana Treatment Centre, 21 persons from the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 18 persons from the Lunawa District Hospital. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have thus risen to 82,059.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 11,172 PCR tests were performed on Saturday.
