304 more COVID-19 patients detected

  • Total patient count rises to 86,989, triple cluster expands to 82,644 patients

A total of 304 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 patients detected in the island to 86,989.

The patients detected yesterday include 288 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and four persons linked to the prisons cluster. The triple cluster that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons have thus expanded to 82,644 patients.

The total patient count also includes 2,232 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 187 foreigners.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,908 persons are currently under medical care, of which 178 persons are at the Hamabantota District General Hospital, 163 persons are at the Warakapola Base Hospital, 146 persons are at the Kahawatte Treatment Centre, and 146 persons are at the Kopai Treatment Centre.

Hospitals are also monitoring 383 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 351 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday, including 31 persons from the Undungoda District Hospital, 26 persons from the Rambukkana Treatment Centre, and 23 persons from the Kahawatte Treatment Centre.

A total of 83,561 persons have recovered from the virus to date.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 12,557 PCR tests were performed on Wednesday, through which 342 COVID-19 patients were detected. This includes 62 persons from Gampaha, 39 persons from Jaffna, 34 persons from Colombo, 32 persons from Kalutara, and 18 persons from Mannar.

The district distribution of patients records 28,716 patients from Colombo, 17,139 patients from Gampaha, 6,364 patients from Kalutara, 4,058 patients from Kandy, and 2,452 patients from Kurunegala.
