264 more test positive for COVID-19

A total of 264 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 patient count to 92,706.

The patients detected yesterday include 238 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and six persons from the Prisons cluster. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, and Prisons clusters have thus expanded to 87,910 patients. In addition to this, 2,655 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 207 foreigners are also among the patients detected in the island.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the district distribution of patients records 29,750 persons from Colombo, 18,335 persons from Gampaha, 6,649 persons from Kalutara, 4,194 persons from Kandy, and 2,866 persons from Ratnapura.

As of 28 and 29 March, 19 areas in Colombo District were identified as high-risk areas with a COVID-19 patient detected in the past 14 days. Since 4 October, 18,529 COVID-19 patients have been detected from the Colombo Municipal Council area.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,342 patients from Hanwella, 1,227 patients from Kolonnawa, and 1,093 persons from Boralasgamuwa have been detected since 4 October.

At present, 2,887 persons are under medical care, of which 333 are at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 119 are at the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre, and 115 are at the Warakapola Base Hospital.

A total of 353 persons are currently under observation over suspicions of having COVID-19.

Hospitals yesterday discharged 161 persons who have recovered from the virus. The recoveries include 17 persons from the Panideniya Treatment Centre, 17 persons from the Yakkala Treatment Centre, and 16 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have thus risen to 89,251.

On Tuesday, 139 persons tested positive for COVID-19, of which 118 were associates of the Peliyagoda cluster, 10 were Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, seven were from the Prisons cluster, and four were foreign arrivals.

Of Tuesday’s patients, 39 were from Ratnapura, 22 were from Gampaha, 20 were from Jaffna, 14 were from Colombo, and seven were from Kurunegala.

Meanwhile, the Epidemiology Unit states that 9,752 persons received the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, bringing the total number of vaccinated persons in the country to 913,219.
