251 persons test positive for COVID-19

The country’s COVID-19 total patient count yesterday rose to 90,765 with the detection of 251 COVID-19 positive persons.

According to the Department of Government Information, 119 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 23 persons linked to the Prisons cluster were among the patients detected yesterday. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons COVID-19 clusters have thus increased to 86,046.

In addition to the triple clusters, 2,504 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 193 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,907 persons are currently under medical care, including 129 persons at the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre, 120 persons at the Krishnapuram Treatment Centre, and 108 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.

A total of 465 persons are currently under observation at various hospital over suspicions of having contracted the virus.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 248 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday. This includes 30 persons from the Hambantota District General Hospital, 24 persons from the Wathupitiwela Treatment Centre, and 19 persons from the Kamburugamuwa Hospital. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries currently stand at 87,306.

On Monday, 8,618 PCR tests were performed and 314 patients were detected. The patients include 258 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster, 40 overseas arrivals, and 16 persons linked to the prisons cluster. Of the patients, 52 were detected from Trincomalee, 30 were detected from Kalutara, 29 were detected from Gampaha, 28 were detected from Colombo, and 27 were detected from Kegalle.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 29,340 persons from Colombo, 18,079 persons from Gampaha, 6,564 persons from Kalutara, 4,159 persons from Kandy, and 2,758 persons from Ratnapura have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
