215 more test positive for COVID-19

Two hundred and fifteen persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 patient count to 92,303.

The patients detected yesterday include 151 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster, 49 overseas arrivals, and 15 persons linked to the Prisons cluster. The Department of Government Information states that 87,693 persons from the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons clusters and overseas arrivals have tested positive for the virus.

Of the total COVID-19 patients detected in the island, 29,695 persons are from Colombo, 18,290 persons are from Gampaha, 6,621 persons are from Kalutara, 4,187 persons are from Kandy, and 2,841 persons are from Ratnapura. On Sunday, 249 persons tested positive for COVID-19, of which 236 were from sub-clusters related to the Peliyagoda cluster, 11 were Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, one was a foreign overseas arrival, and one was from the Prison cluster.

The district distribution of Sunday’s patients includes 63 persons from Jaffna, 42 persons from Colombo, and 33 persons from Gampaha.

At present, 2,823 persons are under medical care, of which 304 are at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 118 are at the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 109 are at the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre. A total of 393 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are also under observation.

Meanwhile, hospitals yesterday discharged 291 persons who recovered from the virus. This includes 62 persons from the Kopai Treatment Centre, 33 persons from the Rambukkana Treatment Centre, and 21 persons from the Laggala Pallegama District Hospital.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 88,914 persons have recovered from the virus to date.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 894,365 persons have received the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to date.
