2,386 persons test positive for COVID-19

The country’s total COVID-19 detections rose to 133,484 with 2,386 persons linked to the New Year cluster testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters have risen to 127,362 patients. This includes 82,785 persons linked to the Peliyagoda cluster, 34,104 persons from the New Year cluster, 5,028 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In addition to the local cases, 3,893 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 315 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 38,429 patients from Colombo, 24,195 patients from Gampaha, 10,609 patients from Kaluthara, 6,067 patients from Kurunegala, and 5,468 patients from Kandy have been detected to date.

This includes the 606 patients from Colombo, 417 patients from Kalutara, 300 patients from Gampaha, and 196 patients from Kurunegala detected on Tuesday. A total of 2,568 persons tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, including 38 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad.

The Health Promotion Bureau states that 26,428 PCR tests were performed on Tuesday.

At present, 24,977 persons are under medical care, including 636 persons at the Punani Treatment Centre, 506 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital, and 486 persons at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre.

Hospitals also have 1,519 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,016 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday having recovered from the virus. This includes 95 persons from the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital, 94 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, and 67 persons from the Hingurakgoda Base Hospital.

A total of 107,657 persons have recovered from the virus to date.
