Health authorities yesterday confirmed 13 COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death rate to 422.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, the deaths occurred between 3 and 17 February.
Yesterday’s deaths include an 82-year-old from Nugegoda who died at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital of heart disease exacerbated by COVID-19 and kidney disease, and a 74-year-old individual from Panadura who died of COVID pneumonia, blood poisoning and lung cancer while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital.
On 16 February, an 86-year-old individual from Peliyagoda died while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The cause of death is COVID pneumonia, heart disease, and kidney disease.
An individual from Gampola on 15 February died of COVID-19, lung disease, and high blood pressure while receiving treatment at the Gampola Base Hospital. The individual was 69 years old.
On 12 February, a 65-year-old individual from Agarapathana died while being admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital from the Agarapathana Hospital. The cause of death has been cited as acute asthma associated with COVID-19 and diabetes.
The previous day, a 46-year-old individual from Nuwara Eliya died of COVID-19 and kidney disease while being admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital.
On 10 February, an individual from Naboda died of blood poisoning, COVID-19 and acute diabetes at home. He was 69 years old.
An individual from Kalutara North died of COVID pneumonia and high blood pressure at home on 7 February.
Health authorities also confirmed that an 83-year-old from Bombuwala died at home of pneumonia associated with COVID-19 and high blood pressure on 5 February.
The same day, a 76-year-old individual from Kalutara died at home of exacerbated asthma, COVID-19 and lung cancer.
An individual from Maggona also died on 5 February. The individual was 63 years old and died of heart disease associated with COVID-19 and high blood pressure at home.
The fourth death confirmed yesterday occurred on 5 February and was that of a 72-year-old individual from Kalutara North who died of blood poisoning associated with COVID-19 and heart disease at home.
On 3 February, an 82-year-old individual from Weuda died of COVID pneumonia and acute kidney damage while receiving treatment at the Teldeniya Base Hospital.
