Wurth Lanka Ltd., the German based automotive after-market products company which started its operations 20 years ago with a single employee celebrated its 20th year of successful operations in Sri Lanka a few days ago.

Since its inception, Wurth Lanka has grown to 120 employees with its own state-of-the-art office and stores complex in Makumbura in Pannipitiya, three divisions supporting 3,500 product lines, four pick-up shops in Nugegoda, Pannipitiya, Negombo and Kurunegala, a distributed network of partners and dealers, and most importantly a large, active and loyal customer base of over 5,500.

“We are extremely happy with the progress that we have made from our humble beginnings. I take this opportunity to thank Wurth Gmbh of Germany, our parent company for their unstinted support, confidence and guidance, and our employees without whose commitment we could not have achieved our goals,” said Wurth Lanka Managing Director Rohan Amirthiah.

“Our main focus remains to ensure that customer needs are understood and met in a timely fashion. In order to achieve this goal, two-thirds of the employee-base comprises of Sales and Marketing staff,” he added.

The first product umbrella to be introduced in the year 2000 was the automotive products division. 10 years later, the Construction division was added to the portfolio. The latest product line to be added to the company was the Metal Maintenance division in 2015.

To celebrate this milestone achievement of 20 years of successful presence in Sri Lanka, Wurth Lanka is planning a range of engagement events throughout the year to touch base with the company’s customers, suppliers and all stakeholders across the country.

Being an active company that supports a wide variety of sporting events, motoring and non-motoring, Wurth Lanka will also host their first ever Golf Tournament in the first half of 2020, where professional golfers from Sri Lanka and overseas will be invited to participate. More details of this will be released in due course.

Wurth Lanka prides itself on its innovative thinking and introducing a new or improved product finely tuned to the conditions of the country and the market every year. 2020 will see the relaunch of the Automotive coolants line with three categories, namely Premium which suits a wide variety of vehicles, Hybrid that is designed for use by hybrid vehicles and Inverter, a specialised formulation for cooling the electronic inverter that is a key piece of equipment in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Wurth Lanka’s parent company, Wurth GmbH is a German family-owned company that was established in 1945 by Adolf Wurth, across a multitude of product categories including automotive, industrial, construction, metal maintenance and machinery to name a few.

His son Prof. Rheinhold Wurth took over the business along with his mother, at the age of 19 and leads from the front, being very active with the sales force. Professor Wurth has visited the Sri Lankan operation twice.

In 2006 Prof. Rheinhold Wurth handed over the Chairmanship of the company to his daughter Bettina Wurth who has also visited the Sri Lankan operation. Wurth is a third-generation family company.
