Access Motors, together with The Council for Business with Britain (CBB), which is part of the Chamber of Commerce, hosted a fundraising event to felicitate Sri Lankan cricketing icon Kumar Sangakkara at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo recently. The event was attended by newly-appointed British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Sarah Hulton.

The fundraiser highlighted Sangakkara’s significant contributions to cricket both locally and globally and his current status as one of the most respected ambassadors of Sri Lanka. The former captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team was recently announced as the next President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), making history by becoming the first non-British President in the Club’s over 230-year history to hold the prestigious honorary position.

The event was organised to raise funds for CBB’s English Language Training (ELT) program, which is run in conjunction with the British Council in Sri Lanka. By joining as one of the Platinum Sponsors, Access Motors highlighted the company’s commitment to investing in the future of Sri Lanka by uplifting the educational standards in the country.

The CBB is a non-political, not-for-profit organisation, formed to promote two-way trade between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. The CBB has helped uplift the English language-speaking capacity of Sri Lankans by developing the ability of local teachers to deliver high-quality English language training to young Sri Lankans. Formerly known as SML Frontier Automotive, Access Motors is part of the Access Group, one of Sri Lanka’s fastest-growing conglomerates. Renowned for being the Sole Agent for the Land Rover brand for 16 years in Sri Lanka, Access Motors was awarded the Jaguar agency in 2016, coinciding with the opening of the state-of-the-art showroom in Colombo 7. Softlogic took part as the second Platinum Sponsor while the Event Sponsors were HSBC, John Keells Properties, Finlays, International Distillers Ltd. and Norfolk Foods.
