The forum for the SLIM Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM) 2019 – fourth intake was recently held on a grand scale at the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management.

Themed ‘Unknown Stories of Known People’, the event was made more captivating with the

participation of popular singers Santhush Weeraman, Lahiru Perera and well-known sports

personality Dhammika Prasad, whose speeches appealed to the large gathering of young

employees and school leavers. The Preliminary Certificate in Marketing is now readily available

to anyone interested in entering the world of marketing.

Emphasising the concepts of courage and motivation, the special invitees discussed the personal obstacles they’d had to overcome to achieve their goals. Sathush Weeraman stated that while he and his team were initially rejected by many broadcasting stations, their determination and hard work enabled them to rise in the music industry. He further encouraged the audience to believe in their skills and talents, and work hard on developing them.

Lahiru Perera added to this inducement by describing the thorny path he had to follow to achieve his dream of becoming a star in the Lankan music industry, and urged the audience to follow their hearts and work hard. Dhammika Prasad spoke on the concept of ‘not giving up’ while revealing the physical injuries he underwent during his career.

He believes that while such setbacks may create a comma in our journey, they should not be considered as a full stop. The speakers further encouraged the audience to initiate their journey with a solid professional foundation.
