“IRONMAN” is an incredibly prestigious sporting competition held in locations throughout the world. Sri Lanka hosted the full-distance IRONMAN competition this year in February for the second time. Colombo took centre stage as the country showcased its beautiful beaches, historic towns and world-renowned hospitality to a world-wide audience. The Paradise Challenge continued with the Swimming, Biking and Running events which challenged the competitors to the maximum.

Speaking about the event, outdoor digital media sponsor Emerging Media Ltd. Managing Director Sanjeewa Rajapaksha was especially proud to join forces with IRONMAN which provided an economic boost to the local economy. “More than merely showcasing sport, most importantly of all, the event portrayed community spirit. IRONMAN is an event that invests in both people and location, and we are proud to be part of this amazing experience.”

“For lots of athletes, the idea of competing in an IRONMAN 70.3® race can be extremely daunting, but the event is accessible for so many athletes of all abilities. For many, we find it’s the perfect vehicle to transport them on their journey to the longer distances whilst also being a significant achievement in itself,” he added.

The events took off with the marathon lap in the stunning location of the Galle Face Green on 24 February at 6 am. The stunning views and passionate support extended by the sponsors helped inspire them to the finish line at Galle Face Colombo.

With lots of accommodation options, friendly locals and a region rich in history, SO Sri Lanka Ironman 70.3 Colombo was the perfect way to kick-start 2019.
