It was a very thought-provoking evening by the extremely articulate Dayan Fernando. Dayan speaks from many years of experience; being the Warden of Lyceum International School, he manages an island-wide student population of 22,000 and is a mentor to many. Dayan sees through his students’ behaviour, the lives, their lives outside school, life at home.

The changes in technology were important, he says. We need to understand the role it plays in a child’s life, but the parental interaction, friendship and partnering is non-negotiable in the present day context, was his key message.

Work-life balance has been a hot topic in the corporate world as everyone is trying to have the best in both worlds, aiming to be a better parent, a better friend, a close family member and a caring global citizen while achieving success at work. This is one of the many reasons ‘Having it All, Striking a Balance’ speech by Dayan Fernando at the November TMC Members’ meeting was well-received by the audience.

Dayan’s awesome skills in Public Speaking has made it interesting to listen when he was sharing his personal experiences as a father of two children as well as a school teacher guiding many children around the country. Discussions on positive energy powers, growing healthy children, living a happy life, technology usage among young generation got everyone’s active participation.

Dayan is a talented speaker with capability to get participants to think and reflect on their own life events and to plan what they can do differently to have a balance. I was thinking about how much I miss the white sandy beaches, and decided it is time to take a break from the rush hour. While you are reading this, I might be already enjoying the sun and the beach with a glass of a tropical drink.

Thank you Dayan for the beautiful speech. Looking forward to listen to you again soon.
