TMC has started this unique evening concept wherein its own members speak. This is a great way to learn as the talk is more practical rather than been only theoretical!

Today’s speaker Dr. Madhu Fernando rightly emphasised that a mature organisation will have different needs and requirements compared to a startup and what would be needed at the initial stage of a project.

Dr. Fernando, with her vast experience in Project Management, told the audience about the evolution of project management and how it relates to mature business decisions. It was stressed that project management has been shown to bring immense value and benefits to most organisations and its stakeholders at large.

Today, when increasing revenue is a challenge, it is essential to optimise the costs and control it so that the organisation can ultimately sustain itself.

Dr Madhu Fernando’s talk on Project Management was thought-provoking and thoroughly enjoyable. She eloquently emphasised the importance of project management and the benefits it brings to organisations. Technicalities of the ‘Project Management Maturity Model’ were explained to the audience like a piece of cake. Highlight of the talk for me was Dr. Fernando’s emphasis on the 10 points of project management, which are scope, time, cost, quality, resources, communication, stakeholder, risk, procurement and integration.

Her message is, if honed in on these 10 points, basically the project is successfully done and dusted. I also liked how she charted the four stages of project management cycle, which are ad hoc, define, managed and continuous improvement. I really hope she will have more sessions on this topic in the future Members Speak.
