Good Market to host a one-day Good Market event in Kandy

Good Market is a curated market place where vendors of social enterprises and responsible businesses that are good for people and the planet. At present, the focus is on building outreach, in and beyond Colombo. 

Over the past couple of years, there have been several requests from upcountry vendors and community members to host an event in Kandy. With this in mind, the Good Market team has been coordinating with Kandy City Centre to host a one-day Good Market event on Saturday, 16 September from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be 25 stalls showcasing 35-40 vendors, predominantly from the Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala and Kegalle Districts, bringing to the table organic vegetables and fruits, dairy products, healthy ready-to-eat food, artisanal handicrafts, up-cycled fashion and accessories, even recycled goods, to establish the event, as a market place for ecofriendly products.   

The vendors go through an application and review process to ensure they meet the minimum sector standards. While, many people only know Good Market as a weekly event and retail outlet in Colombo, the movement is actually much larger than that.  Having transformed into a growing online community platform, it is now available trilingually in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, (with further language translations in progress). Good Market approved vendors have penetrated all local districts, with a presence across several countries, in almost every sector.  

There are currently 416 vendors on the platform, and more applications come in every day.  Good Market hopes to increase the visibility of these producers, service providers, and change makers, to give people a wider range of choices and together create a better world for customers and producers alike.  

In addition to vendor stalls, visitors to the Kandy event will also have the opportunity to interact and learn from group discussions while spreading awareness on responsible consumerism including zero waste, conscious fashion, animal welfare, and organic agriculture and certification systems.In keeping with the commitment to community inclusivity and participation, the Good Market Kandy event, also holds space for anyone looking for a platform to share their talent. Local musicians, visual artists and performers are welcome to participate in the community open mic event, which will feature throughout the day.
