Last Sunday small business owners at the CAN Weekend Market were presented with the rare opportunity of being invited to breakfast by young business leader Dilith Jayaweera at Colombo City Centre.

Before breakfast, Jayaweera gave a “master class” type presentation on secrets to success in the business world.

The morning proceedings began with Keshini Ann Suraweera, Founder/CEO of The Creative Isle, responsible for the CAN Weekend Market initiative, addressing the gathering of over 100 entrepreneurs.

She encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunity presented to them via the CAN weekend market. She shared the personal stories of two entrepreneurs, who then presented Jayaweera with special tokens of thanks from their range of product.

Jayaweera shared valuable insights on marketing and brand management. During the presentation he focused in on the significance of positioning ones product effectively in the marketplace. He shed light on the importance of asking the question, “How does the consumer see your product?”

Jayaweera also encouraged the entrepreneurs to focus on showcasing what makes ones product distinct when compared to direct competitors.

Giving several real life examples Jayaweera clearly described the impact that correct positioning can have one the success of the business venture. Later he explained that it was necessary to acknowledge that as business owners in Sri Lanka, “We need to differentiate ourselves from the world, by positioning Sri Lanka as a different country with a different product.”
