  • Notable kings and queens of ancient Sri Lanka depicted in DIMO’s 2020 calendar

Sri Lanka’s history is one which is rich in notable individuals who have made great contributions to the country. DIMO’s commitment and passion to revolutionary technology and engineering is deeply rooted in Sri Lanka, formerly a collection of kingdoms governed by notable kings and queens whose contributions to society stand as pillars of innovative thinking and sustainable planning.

The 2020 DIMO wall calendar pays tribute to a few of these royals, to inculcate passion and patriotism for Sri Lanka’s ancient achievements and pioneering initiatives. DIMO believes this calendar will not only be useful, especially for children, but will also allow adults to enhance their knowledge of ancient Sri Lanka.

DIMO’s 2020 wall calendar consists of 12 large pages and a cover page. Each page depicts a king or queen with a colourful hand-drawing and insightful description of the person and his or her contribution to Sri Lanka. The man behind the striking drawings is Sumith Akmeemana. One of the few Sri Lankan artists with the ability to undertake Buddhist temple fresco paintings and sculptures, Akmeemana is a talented artist who has achieved fame in many spheres. He is currently the Art Director at Sarva Integrated, the agency behind the creation which has been entrusted with designing the annual DIMO calendar for the last nine years. Sarva’s in-depth knowledge of the pulse of the Sri Lankan consumer, along with the diversity of talent within its team, enabled it to create a highly regarded work such as DIMO’s 2020 calendar.

Since 1939, DIMO has been a proud forerunner in establishing the benchmark for world-class engineering and technological solutions. DIMO has been continuously adding immense value to the lives of Sri Lankans through unmatched quality and ground-breaking solutions that enhance their quality of life.

DIMO Chairman and Managing Director Ranjith Pandithage stated: “The DIMO calendar has always stood out as a valuable must-have calendar among offices, households and institutes. This year’s theme is more informative and includes a lot of unknown details of our ancient heroes. The demand for this year’s calendar has been tremendous. As a responsible corporate citizen which recently celebrated 80 years of existence in Sri Lanka, we have a duty to create awareness about how great ancient Sri Lanka was – to spur the children and youth.”

Moreover, DIMO’s 2020 wall calendar is produced in a responsible manner. The calendar is made on FSC certified art board and paper using ink and water-based coatings produced with environmentally safe raw materials free of toxic heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium.

The FSC certification is considered the gold standard for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious and economically viable. The calendar also includes icons and images highlighting important dates of 2020, which is useful to the user.

The cover page of the calendar includes drawings of the ancient kingdoms of Sri Lanka, while the inside pages depict King Pandukabhaya, King Dhatusena, King Mahasena, King Parakramabahu I, King Dutugemunu, King Vimaladharmasuriya I, King Parakramabahu VI, King Vijayabahu I, King Buddhadasa, Queen Sugala, King Kashyapa I and Queen Kusumasana Devi. DIMO is hopeful that their 2020 wall calendar will continue to be one of the most admired wall calendars in Sri Lanka as it has been in previous years.
