Colombo City Centre offers exciting new activities to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year

In celebration of Sinhala/Tamil New Year, Colombo City Centre will be hosting their very own ‘Kolambata Avurudu’, which will commemorate this unique Sri Lankan festival by serving up exciting activities all month long with a refreshingly modern twist.

The Colombo City Centre Mall will be transformed into a traditional Sri Lankan gama (village), with special appearances from the village arachchi (chief), Kids’ Avurudu village, and so much more. In one corner of the Mall Atrium, a sweet treats market will be set up to offer the scrumptious delicacies that everyone looks forward to each Avurudu. Kids can also learn to play the raban with our digital raban player assistant, and partake in thrilling Kana Mutti games which will be projected on a digital video wall.  

Plus, every shopper who purchases over Rs. 10,000 at any retail outlet across the Mall, will stand to receive surprise gifts including giveaways, vouchers, and even free air tickets to Singapore.

Further, Colombo City Centre will be hosting the seminal Avurudu Kumaraya and Kumariya competition, where customers will be invited to strut their stuff in their best ethnic wear on a high-fashion runway. Going for more “fashion week” vs. just a simple pageant parade, Colombo City Centre’s Avurudu Kumaraya and Kumariya will offer participants the opportunity to model looks that reflect their personal style and win amazing prizes, courtesy of the retailers featured at the Mall.
