Loss of reserves due to vehicle imports is a criminal waste

Daily FT headline 14 December 2020 read ‘Sri Lanka forex reserves fall to $ 5,549 m in Nov. 2020.’ 

And insensitive, unscrupulous, unpatriotic motor vehicle importers are lobbying for lifting of the import ban. In 2019 $ 6.5 billion were received from Sri Lankan expatriate workers. Out of that $ 1 billion was wasted on vehicles for private use. Isn’t that criminal waste?
