Yashan released his new music video for his latest single ‘Labagaththe Amaruwen’ last Sunday, 20 October. It is a Sri Lankan pop song which was written by the freshest revelation to the Sri Lankan music industry, Sajith V. Chathuranga who wrote two of the biggest hits in recent times such as ‘Nodaka Inna Ba’ and ‘Babara Nade’. Music of the song was directed by the up-and-coming Chamath Sangeeth and the music video was produced by Yashan at his newly-formed company ‘OnviA Creations’ teaming up with two young cinematographers Yenushka Dissanayake and Chathushka Dissanayake. The music video was directed by Yenushka Dissanayake The video was filmed at four locations (Kalutara, Independence Square, Dutch Hospital Complex and Zylan Villa Luxury Hotel) for two days with a crew of 20. A highly advanced ‘Black Magic’ camera was used for shooting, which is mostly used for filming movies in other countries. The female model is Diana Yureni and the male model is Buddhi De Silva. A total of 13 costumes were used for Diana and 10 for Buddhi. The costumes were designed by Darshana De Silva at The Buying House and Chathuri De Silva. Makeup and hair was done by Buddhika Sandaruwan at Salon Nasanduura. Following are excerpts from an interview with Yashan: Q: What is OnviA Creations? A: It is a production house where we provide the most efficient solution for audio and video creation, photo shoot, event and artiste management requirement. Q: What do you mean by artiste management? A: You cannot be a complete artiste by just doing a song, even if your song gets popular by luck. You should know the formula to maintain yourself in the industry. It is all about planning and executing it in the correct manner. It is not just about talent; you need to position yourself right, make an image for yourself, gain a value for your brand by using the right strategies of marketing. These are what counts when it comes to building a career. You need all these in just the right doses to become a complete artiste. If you have the skills, I can help realise the dream of becoming an artiste. Q: What is your biggest goal in music? A: I have already achieved so many goals in my musical journey and am glad and thankful to God for that. Since music is a language that goes beyond borders, I would love to break boundaries and make it to the international level. My goal is to make a world hit and make my country, Sri Lanka, proud. I am happy to state that I am working towards this dream and hope it will bring very good, positive news soon. Q: Why did you switch from hip hop to pop? A: The change is only in this song. I have not changed my whole image. I did this song on a request made by Chamath, the music composer of the song. He mailed me the song and asked me to check it out and send him the demo even though it was clearly out of my style. When I listened to it I fell in love with it on the first play itself. So we met at the studio, voiced it and ended up doing a music video for it as well. This was an experiment for me; I truly believe that you won’t be able to succeed if you don’t take any risks. Q: How has the feedback been so far? A: Amazing. I am overjoyed, honestly. My fans seem to love this song as much as I did. However I am open to criticism as well as I strive to continuously improve myself and produce songs that the public like to hear and will enjoy. Q: What plans for the future? A: I am currently working on my third album while planning an event for 31 December. More details will be revealed soon. I also did an English song in collaboration with an artiste from Switzerland, the audio of which will be released in November. Q: Anything special you want to say? A: I would like to thank my sponsors – Reebok, Osmo - SrisLanka, Cream Soda, Lassana Flora, Pixel Art and Digital Eye crew – for all their kind cooperation and support. Q: Anything for your fans? A: Thank you for being a fan and loving my music. I would humbly ask you to stay with me and keep supporting me.
