  • An elegant evening of entertainment
Taking a delightful turn from its usual corporate training programs and workshops the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors brings together grand entertainment coupled with a sit down dinner on 25 November at the Balmoral, Kingsbury hotel. Titled ‘Memories from Broadway’, the evening’s proceedings will commence with cocktails at 7 p.m. extending to dinner and a compilation of some of Broadway’s finest brought to life from 8 p.m. onwards. Performing at the event is none other than the Workshop Players led by Jerome L. de Silva. In it’s close to twenty years in existence the Workshop Players have performed a number of plays in the likes of Evita, Les Miserables, Cats, Lion King, the Sound of Music and Jesus Christ Superstar. Its most recent performance Jesus Christ Superstar which took place last month at the Lionel Wendt garnered loads of appreciation and critical acclaim. Memories from Broadway will feature several excerpts from their repertoire whilst the audience wines and dines over an exquisite six course dinner. The proceedings are held as a fund raiser for SLID which will help further the Institute’s endeavour in taking the message of Corporate Governance to the provinces. The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors was set up in 2000 as a forum to serve the corporate and professional development needs of company directors both in the private and public sectors and is also regarded as the authoritative focal point on boardroom governance in Sri Lanka. It has a diverse membership of 550 professionals and directors from blue chips, quoted and unquoted private companies, family businesses and entrepreneurial ventures. It organises many programs focusing primarily on the topic of corporate governance. These programs are held on a monthly basis mainly for the corporate fraternity of Colombo. However with the growing disparity between the corporates in the Western province as opposed to the others SLID has begun to expand its target group by organising seminars on ‘Conducting Business Responsibly’ in other provinces, totally free of charge. Over the last three years the Institute has organised six such seminars in Kandy, Ratnapura, Trincomalee, Beliatta, Killinochchi and Gampaha. It hopes to conduct a similar program in Jaffna early next year. The Principal Sponsor for the Dinner Theatre will be IWS Holdings Group with Citibank as Gold Sponsor, Ceylon Tobacco Company and Nations Trust Bank/AMEX as Silver Sponsors, Havelock City as Bronze Sponsor and Commercial Bank of Ceylon. Partnering SLID further in this endeavour are Bates Strategic Alliance as the Creative Partner, DUC Technologies as the Technology Partner, Coca Cola as the Beverage Partner and Kingsbury as the Hospitality Partner. Media Partners of the event are YES FM, Legends FM and MTV Sports. More information on the dinner theatre can be obtained on telephone numbers 2301646/8 and by email to [email protected].
