  • Nihonbashi and Ministry of Crab maestro Dharshan signs brand ambassador agreement with Häcker kitchens and German-made, Miele and Bosch home appliances
Dedicated gastronomes, know Dharshan Munidasa for his two gourmet restaurants, Nihonbashi and Ministry of Crab, where diners experience at first hand this celebrated Sri Lankan chef’s astonishing mastery of the culinary arts. Those who simply love good food and the pleasure of cooking probably know him better as the host of the popular TV cookery programme Culinary Journeys with Dharshan. Still in his early twenties when he founded Nihonbashi, Dharshan spent nearly another twenty years developing and refining his artistry, building a reputation for creating original, memorable dishes painstakingly selecting ingredients, with  meticulous attention to detail and hands-on involvement in all aspects of his work. The name Häcker may be a less familiar name to Sri Lankan foodies, but thanks to Dharshan Munidasa, it is one they will soon hear more about. The celebrity chef has just signed an endorsement as the exclusive Brand Ambassador for Häcker kitchen german-made, Miele and Bosch home appliances in Sri Lanka. This leading German manufacturer of custom-built fitted kitchens along with Miele and Bosch kitchen home appliances recently opened their first Sri Lankan showroom at Nawala Road, Rajagiriya. Häcker kitchens offer the last word in design, quality, functionality and workmanship, created for householders who will settle for nothing but the best. A custom-made Häcker kitchen is like a top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz limousine or coupé: sleek, efficient, functional, precision-built, stunningly beautiful – and expensive. “I was excited as soon as I saw the build quality of the Hacker Kitchens,” said Dharshan. “And when I tried them out, the practicality and efficiency had me convinced that I made the right choice.” Dharshan will help spread the word about Häcker, Miele and Bosch among Sri Lankans who are enthusiastic about creating, serving and enjoying good food – people who are used to the finer things in life and always insist on the best. “It’s not a big market,” he explained. “To own a Häcker kitchen makes you part of a very exclusive, up-market club.” Since many of the diners at Nihonbashi and Ministry of Crab are potential members of that club, Dharshan will publicise the Häcker brand at his restaurants. He is also booked to perform a series of high-ticket gourmet cookery demonstrations to select audiences at a Häcker kitchen built entirely to his specifications at the brand’s showrooms in Rajagiriya. After the demo, audience members get to sample the dishes created by Dharshan. Other events and demonstrations are planned, but they are kept under wraps at the moment. “I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by what we’ve got in store,” says Martin Klement, exclusive Partner of Häcker, Miele and Bosch home appliances in Sri Lanka. With several high-profile orders already in the bag, Martin is gearing up for a big marketing drive in 2014, and has even brought down a German specialist to help design and assemble customers’ kitchens from components exclusively imported from Germany. For Dharshan, the deal with Häcker is a chance to spread his message about the importance of quality ingredients in good cooking. “Educating the public is something more chefs and restaurateurs should do,” he says. “As exclusive Brand Ambassador, I can effectively promote that message – and give my seal of approval to the best custom-made kitchens and home appliances in the world!” For Dharshan, the deal with Häcker is a chance to spread his message about the importance of quality ingredients in good cooking. “Educating the public is something more chefs and restaurateurs should do,” he said. “As exclusive Brand Ambassador, I can effectively promote that message – and give my seal of approval to the best custom-made kitchens and home appliances in the world!” Pix by Daminda Harsha Perera
