Wijeya Newspapers joins Infotel 2017 as Official Print Media Partner

Wijeya Newspapers, a name that is synonyms with the premiere newspaper industry in Sri Lanka, has joined with Infotel 2017 as the Official Print Media Partner. Organised by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), Infotel is South Asia’s oldest and most prestigious Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exposition. This year’s event is scheduled to be held from 1 to 5 November at the BMICH in Colombo, under the theme ‘Towards a Digital Economy’.

Established in 1979, Wijeya Newspapers has today become the leading newspaper group in Sri Lanka recording the highest annual turnover. Wijeya Newspapers currently has been publishing Daily Lankadeepa, Sunday Lankadeepa, Adha, Desaya, Daily Mirror, Sunday Times and Daily FT (the only Financial Times Daily Newspaper in Sri Lanka). Wijeya Newspapers has been the recipient of coveted industry awards such as SLIM-Nielsen, Superbrand, Editors Guild and Sri Lanka Association of Printers.

Expressing his views on the tie-up, Wijeya Newspapers Assistant General Manager, Brands and Promotions Sujith Pathirannehe observed: “Wijeya Newspapers has for the past several years taken part in Infotel as the official print media partner and the main reason why we are continuing to actively take part is because we consider Infotel to be a key IT event in Sri Lanka. I have seen certain years where there was room for improvement however, Infotel and their message remains very key towards our readership. It is in my belief the top-rated IT event in Sri Lanka. We have set up a digital division to ensure this transition and we are making a very strong effort to digitise. We acknowledge that in any sector be it agriculture, print or anything else, digital will play a key role. In other words, the future will become digital regardless of we liking it or not.’’
