service providers and developers at the RMIT University. This was organised for a visiting Sri Lankan IT delegation and was coordinated by the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka.

The delegation comprised Softcodeit Solutions Ltd., 24/7 Techies Ltd., INEXIS CONSULTING, Senid Business Solutions, PayMedia Ltd., i-Context Content Convergence Ltd. and the ICTA Sri Lanka.

RMIT University Chief Marketing Officer Chaminda Ranasinghe welcomed the Sri Lankan delegation, Australian IT sector representatives and the professionals who attended the event.

Professor John Thangarajah, Associate Dean and Head of the Computer Science and Software Engineering of the RMIT University, while delivering keynote address of the event, emphasised the importance of exploring potential opportunities of IT sector in Australia and strengthening the educational collaboration in IT sector between Australia and Sri Lanka. Appreciating the remarkable achievements of Sri Lanka’s IT sector over the years Prof. Thangarajah requested the Sri Lankan IT professionals to explore new opportunities in the area of artificial intelligence and related software development. Prof. Thangarajah reiterated RMIT’s commitment to further strengthen its partnerships with Sri Lanka.

ICTA Program Manager Sachindra Samararatne conducted a comprehensive presentation on IT sector opportunities and developments in Sri Lanka. Samararatne also elaborated on the strides which have been made by the Sri Lankan IT sector companies in the global arena and key achievements and partnerships developed over the years.

Proposing a vote of thanks Consul General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne Prasanna Gamage, conveyed the sincere appreciation of the Government of Sri Lanka to the RMIT University for hosting the event which was another significant development of RMIT’s engagement with Sri Lanka.The Consul General also spoke on the need for professionals to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships so that the two countries would be able to collaborate further in the IT sector development while sharing experience and knowledge and avenues for new opportunities. 

The networking event provided a splendid opportunity for the visiting delegation to meet with a large number of Melbourne based Australian IT businesses and consultants and also to observe state of the art facilities of the IT sector available at the RMIT University.
