EDB holds seminar for electronics and electrical sector

The EDB organised a seminar for the electronics and electrical sector exporters and potential exporters in Sri Lanka to make them aware of recent developments of in the industry and the market linkages and trade and tariff concessions in identified regional markets. About 35 participants from the electronics and electrical sector attended this seminar held at EDB.

This Seminar briefly covered the proposed Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement between India and Sri Lanka (ETCA), the India – Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISFTA), EU GSP Plus concessions, proposed Singapore – Sri Lanka FTA,  the role of the Sri Lankan Electronics Manufacturers and Exporters Association (SLEMEA), research findings of the recent EDB organised market exposure program for the sector in Vietnam and Thailand, Business Matchmaking program in Malaysia and Singapore for the Sri Lankan electronics and electrical sector exporters to be held from16th -21st July and a briefing on ‘Productronica India 2018’ Trade Fair to be held in September 2018 in India.

EDB Director General Jeevani Siriwardena delivered introductory remarks. Department of Commerce Director of Commerce Nimal Karunathilake briefed the audience on the importance of FTAs to promote trade with those countries. Sri Lanka Electronic Manufacturers and Exporters Association (SLEMEA) Secretary Shayane Madappulli, Export Services Director M.K.S.K. Maldeni and senior officials of Export Services Division of EDB delivered presentations.
