SLASSCOM has successfully conducted the IT/BPM Week two years running, in Badulla and Matara, and several other cities in previous years. The IT/BPM Week contributed immensely to several of SLASSCOM’s goals, such as bringing about inclusive technological growth across Sri Lanka, advocating the creation of this, building human capacity in regional cities, and bridging the gap between the IT industry and the fresh IT undergraduate.

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, public events have been banned to control the spread, resulting in Universities/Institutes being closed for the foreseeable future. To ensure that they can continue in their initiative goals, SLASSCOM decided to transform the regional IT/BPM Week into a digital IT/BPM Week, thus enabling IT undergraduates around Sri Lanka take part in the IT/BPM Week in the safety of their homes.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s IT-BPM sector has emerged as a shining beacon of resilience due to industry stakeholders working together and driving this initiative. SLASSCOM, with the support of Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Information and Communications Technology Agency in Sri Lanka (ICTA) and Federation of Information Technology Sri Lanka (FITIS) will be conducting this event from 25 to 29 May.

The program will consist of 10 varying online sessions. These sessions will consist of five technical topics of Machine Learning, Blockchain, Design thinking, e-Commerce and Mobile Development and five personal topics of entrepreneurship, career progression, personal grooming and industry readiness post COVID-19.

Digital IT/BPM week 2020 aims to uplift the skills and knowledge of the IT undergraduates in Sri Lanka with technical topics, as well as guidance in career progress in ICT and encourage IT students with entrepreneurial thinking and supporting the digital economy.

Registration for this event is at bit.ly/ITBPMWEEK, and regular updates will be shared on SLASSCOMs social media pages. The Daily FT is the official newspaper for this important initiative.
