Sri Lankan-born businessman conferred Honorary Doctorate by Malaysia

Amist University of Malaysia has honoured Lycamobile and Lyca Group of Companies Chairman Allirajah Subhaskaran with the honorary Doctorate degree. 

This special doctorate degree is dedicated to establishing and operating the flagship Lyca Company in more than 20 countries in the international telecommunications industry as a role model for leading global organisations and for the humanitarian work that is being funded by his Lyca’s Gnanam foundation.

Subhaskaran, who exemplifies the world of labour by capitalising on his own hard work, started Lycamobile in 2006. In his own endeavours, in his own capital and in the face of fierce business battles, he continues to lead the Lyca Group, which has grown to become the epicentre of today’s world-wide distribution.

Subhaskaran has produced many milestone movies in India-based Lyca Productions which also owned by him. His first film, Kaththi, which debuted in 2014, was followed by the making of science fiction 2.0 directed by Shankar, which became India’s highest financed film ever in history.

In October 2011, Lyca ranked 36th among the 250 Leading Private Companies in The Sunday Times by United Kingdom.

In 2010, Allirajah Subhaskaran was awarded the Gold Medal for Outstanding Organization for his contribution to the Asian community in the UK at the Asian Achievement Awards.

In 2011, Allirajah Subhaskaran was awarded the ‘International Entrepreneur of the Year’ award in United Kingdom.

In 2012, the English Asian Business Awards presented Allirajah Subhaskaran with the ‘Power of the Year 2011’ award, which recognised the growth of the Lycamobile business globally and was awarded the ‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ award.

Lycamobile, launched in 2006 by Allirajah Subhaskaran, now operates its telecom networks in more than 20 countries including the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Lycamobile’s success has been due to its commitment in embracing new technology and innovation and the quality of its customer service.
