Eminent speakers from South Asia to address CPM Regional Management Conference 2017

The Institute of Certified Professional Managers (CPM) will be organising the CPM Regional Management Conference 2017 (CRMC 2017) in collaboration with the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) at BMICH on 26 and 27 September.

The AMDISA consists of management institutions in the South Asian Region and the CRMC 2017 will be represented by members from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan. Sri Lanka will host the Board Meeting of AMDISA on 26 September which will be held at PIM. Sri Lankan Members include PIM, CPM, University of Sri Jayawadenapura, NIBM, SLIDA and University of Moratuwa.   

The theme of this international forum is ‘Transformational Leadership: Turning Ideas into Action’.

The conference will be inaugurated on 26 September by the Chief Guest Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Special Assignment. The keynote speaker will be Prof. Errol D’ Souza, Director-In-Charge of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India (IIMA). The President of AMDISA and Dean of National University of Maldives Shathif Ali, Vice President of AMDISA and Chairman of Board of Governors, Uni. of Management and Technology, Pakistan Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Director of IIM Bangalore, India Prof. G. Raghuram will address the inaugural session together with the President of CPM, Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala who is also the Immediate Past President of AMDISA.

The keynote speaker Prof. Errol D’ Souza is the Director-in-charge, IIM-Ahmedabad effective 2 September. He is the dean of faculty at the Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

IIMA is the first and leading management institution in India which commenced with a collaboration with the Harvard Business School in the early 1960’s and was the first Indian Business School to achieve International recognition in 2002. IIMA has by far contributed the largest number of CEO’s and senior managers to Indian organisations among all Business Schools in the India  

Prof. D’ Souza studied Economics and Statistics at the University of Mumbai where he was awarded the Kashinath Trimbak Telang gold medal for obtaining the first rank in his M.A. (Economics) degree. He obtained his Ph.D. as a University Grants Commission National Research Fellow from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. 

He has also held appointments such as the Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI), Chair Professor at the University of Mumbai, India Chair Professor at the University Sciences Po in Paris, as a Visiting Professor of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, as an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, and as a Visiting Professor at the Turin School of Development of the ILO.

On the academic front, he has worked on academic committees of the University Grants Commission and the Indian Council of Social Science Research, and has been associated with the Planning Commission of India and the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities, including as a Member, Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy.

He is also on the Academic Council of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, the Institute for Human Development, Delhi, and on the Advisory Board of the International Centre for Development and Decent Work at Kassel, Germany.

The conference aims to bring together management experts, scholars, practicing managers, business leaders, policy administrators and academicians from leading business schools from South Asia on a platform to discuss various connected issues and share their research findings.

Transformational leadership focuses on the leadership approach that initiates positive change in individuals and social systems. It is expected to drive the management processes in which managers learn competencies for achieving their tasks and adding value to the community at large. A leader inspires, influences and instructs members towards the achievement of the set vision and goals. Challenging status quo to align followers with tasks that enhance individual level to an institutional level performance is the core requisite of the transformational leader.

Assuring the best value to the participants, four core themes will be lined up in the technical sessions to be held on 27 September. The morning sessions will discuss about “The Transformational Role of Management” (Session 01) and “Management Development: Challenges and Success Stories” (Session 02). The evening sessions will thrive with “Management Development in a Digital Environment” (Session 03) and “Turning Ideas into Action: Strategy and Execution” (Session 04).

At the end of the proceedings a summing up of the session will be done by C. Ramakrishna, Executive Director of AMDISA, India. 

There will be a concurrent session with presentation of papers from academics in universities local and overseas who will present research papers which have been evaluated by a technical panel and published. This session will be facilitated by Sinnathamby Vijayapala Chairman, Concurrent Session.
