Dr. Ranali Perera

The magazine compiled a list of 100 innovators which provided a holistic assessment of the changing nature of the industry and those contributing towards its growth and development. These individuals have been identified in diverse categories such as Future Leaders, Women in Energy, Legal and Consultancy for Energy Operations, Banking and Finance in the Energy Industry.

The editorial team of the Petroleum Economist Journal has also been proud to announce Dr. Ranali Perera as one of the Top 10 Most Influential Professionals in the Future Leaders category. Dr. Perera, who obtained her PhD in Economics and Trade Finance from the University of Colombo as a Commonwealth scholar, has worked for the World Bank Colombo on several complex tasks, joined the Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat in the year 2012 and has been serving in the capacity of Petroleum Analyst to date. The sector-specific knowledge gained and hands-on experience acquired by her as a young, charismatic individual has helped secure an identity of her own globally. Her contribution towards facilitating industry-specific development, mainly in the areas of assessing the economic viability of undertaking off-shore oil and gas operations, has inspired an array of areas in Sri Lanka’s hydrocarbon exploration. Revising the country’s off-shore petroleum fiscal regime completely to ensure balanced benefits to all parties involved was a complex task she fulfilled after months of hard work, including conducting several rigorous benchmarking studies.

She was also the key organiser of the first-ever Upstream Petroleum Symposium held in Sri Lanka, an event which helped the organisation attract pioneer oil and gas operators. Furthermore, she was also one of the handful of resource persons who extended support towards the economic studies carried out by the Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat on strategies of introducing natural gas to the energy mix of Sri Lanka.

Dr. Perera has also represented Sri Lanka as a guest speaker at global oil and gas conferences and summits, speaking on subjects of novel thought in many branches of energy studies. At a time when Sri Lanka’s off-shore energy sector is beginning to gain pace and propel its way towards transforming its hydrocarbon exploration into a national economic growth unit, Dr. Ranali Perera’s achievements in this field clearly underscores her potential in becoming a substantial contributor who could drive the sector forward and help envision a sector-oriented growth plan.
