Dr. Kamal Laksiri elected to Strategic Council of IWA

Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka Water Forum Chairman Dr. Kamal Laksiri has been elected as a member of the Strategic Council of the International Water Association (IWA) based in London, UK. 

His candidacy as Industrial Water Users to join the IWA Strategic Council 2019 has been successful and the results have been endorsed by the IWA Board of Directors. This year’s elections have been an example of active participation amongst the IWA members and he has been elected out of over 80 remarkable candidates. 

IWA is a network of water professionals striving for a world in which water is wisely, sustainably and equitably managed. IWA members and staff are situated in 130 countries worldwide, forming the largest international network of water professionals working towards a water wise world.  

IWA is headquartered in London, United Kingdom with a global operations office in Hague, the Netherlands and African and Asian regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Beijing, China respectively.

In his new role as a member of the IWA Strategic Council, he will help the IWA to realise its mission, promote knowledge and provide agenda-setting leadership for the global water community. 

Currently IWA is in the implementation of the 2019-2024 IWA Strategic Plan. During his tenure, he will have the opportunity and duty to provide advice to the IWA Board of Directors and Governing Assembly, guide its activities, stimulate and promote activities of Specialist Groups, Task Groups and Clusters, as well as their collaborations.

Currently Dr. Laksiri works attached to Ceylon Electricity Board as the Project Director of the Broadlands Hydropower Project, a national power project which is under construction. He was a Vice President of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and a Past President of Association of Consulting Engineers Sri Lanka (ACESL). He is also the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Association of the ICE, UK.
