The University of Cambridge has taken first place in the Complete University Guide 2020 for the ninth year running.

The University of Oxford comes second and the University of St Andrews is third, making it the highest-ranked Scottish University.

The London School of Economics and Political Science takes the fourth place position and Imperial College London drops one position to fifth.

The Complete University Guide is a UK-based ranking that assesses UK universities across a broad range of teaching and research indicators.

The University of St Andrews is also top in the UK for student satisfaction. The universities of Aberystwyth and Buckingham take the second and third positions respectively.

The guide also releases separate listings covering 70 different subjects and St Andrews features in the top 10 for 21 subjects, topping four, which makes it just one of five institutions in the UK to top more than two subject tables.
