CIPM and Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry sign MOU for academic cooperation

CIPM Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management came into an understanding with the Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) for academic cooperation to conduct CIPM’s accredited recognised human resource management education courses and corporate training programmes at SCCI’s premises in Ratnapura. 

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 14 February at CIPM Sri Lanka’s head office HR House in Colombo 5 by President CIPM Sri Lanka Dhammika Fernando and SCCI Director and Sabaragamuwa Business School Committee Chairman D.A. Gunaseela. 

CIPM Business School Professional and Academic Affairs Director G. Weerathunga, CIPM Business School Chief Officer/Director U.A.C. Obeysekere, CIPM Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer P.G. Tennakoon, CIPM Sri Lanka Senior Manager Examinations Indika Wijesiriwardena, Kasun Nahallage (CIPM Professional Academic Affairs Committee), CIPM Council Members, and Sabaragamuwa Business School Assistant Manager W.P.D.D. Kudage were present at the occasion. 

“We are delighted to enter into this MOU with SCCI in order to expand our reach to the students and aspiring human resource professionals in the Sabaragamuwa area. Conducting our much popular human resource management courses and corporate training programmes at SCCI’s Business School in Ratnapura will eliminate the need to travel all the way to Colombo in order to achieve their ambitions and aspirations to be in one of the fastest growing and popular management disciplines in the world,” said CIPM Sri Lanka President Dhammika Fernando. 

Under the terms of the MOU, CIPM’s academic staff will conduct their accredited human resource management courses and corporate training programmes at the premises of the SCCI Business School in Ratnapura on a profit sharing basis in pursuance of the common interests in promoting and developing the principles, techniques and practices of human resource management to optimise the utilisation of human resources at national and international level.

“The SCCI is pleased to collaborate with CIPM Sri Lanka, which is the leading professional human resource management professional body and business school in Sri Lanka. We are confident that we will be adding a high degree of value to the human resource management students and professionals in the Sabaragamuwa area with this collaboration,” said SCCI Director and Sabaragamuwa Business School Committee Chairman D. A. Gunaseela.

CIPM was founded in 1959 – incorporated by Parliamentary Act No. 24 of 1976, amended by Act No. 31 of 2018.  CIPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resource Management and to the World Federation of People Management Associations. CIPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organization of Professional Associations (OPA) Sri Lanka. Currently, CIPM comprises of over 1600 Professional Members who serve in both public and private organisations. It was elevated to Chartered Status by the Parliament of Sri Lanka on the 28th of September 2018 by amending the original Act of establishment.
