With a private sector accounting for over 80% of its GDP and a promising Government sector fuelled by a spirit of transformation, Sri Lanka is home to a bustling assortment of companies.

From multinationals to sole traders to franchises to agencies, the country’s corporate sector is both competitive and pro-growth, powered by workforces comprising capable and innate talent.

To establish an engaging platform that sets standards to brain power and develop an annually occurring corporate event that will bring together individuals from across industries, Bristol Institute of Business Management recently launched ‘Bristol Brain Battle 2020’.

Bristol Institue Chief Operating Officer M.J.M. Dilshad

“The inspiration to launch a competitive corporate challenge was the sheer talent in our corporate sector,” states Chief Operating Officer M.J.M. Dilshad. “Whilst establishing a vibrant platform that will facilitate friendly competition through a comprehensive quiz, ‘Bristol Brain Battle’ will be an annual event in the local corporate calendar, one which will help companies set standards and go beyond those very boundaries year on year,” he explains.

Operating as a partner of the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE Bristol), Bristol Institute of Business Management is solely focussed on uplifting the corporate standards of Sri Lanka through the provision of world class tertiary education in the form of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in business administration and accounting and finance.

“Working in tandem with a highly-acclaimed university in the United Kingdom, ranking 28th in the Guardian League Table, we adopt very high standards for ourselves, our students and inevitably the larger corporate sector as well,” shares Dilshad.

‘Bristol Brain Battle’ is poised to be one of the biggest corporate quiz competitions in Sri Lanka where 40 corporate teams will battle for the ultimate victory. In total, there will be three awards and nine sector trophies to be won, given that the competition will witness the coming together of multiple sectors such as banking/finance/insurance, IT/software, telecom, BPO, travel and hospitality, and shipping and logistics to name some.

The five-round quiz competition will test participants on their knowledge of geography, country/world facts, current affairs, world politics, business, economics, marketing, history, creative arts, sports and entertainment.

Each corporate team will comprise five members who will work alongside each other to take their team through the rounds. Acclaimed Quiz Master Shehan Kumar will host the competition which will be held at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo on 3 March from 3 p.m. onwards.

“We’re very excited to see the inaugural ‘Bristol Brain Battle’ unfold on 3 March, because while it will redefine the yardstick to measure corporate brain power, it has the potential to be a highly anticipated annual event in all company calendars across Sri Lanka,” concludes Dilshad.
