Awareness campaign on career opportunities for women migrant returnees and school leavers

The National Human Resources Development Council of Sri Lanka (NHRDC) functions under the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs. NHRDC under the vision of “future ready workforce” conducted an awareness campaign program for the women migrant returnees and school leavers (female) in Town Hall, Wattala, Gampaha district recently. 

The objective of this program was to organise awareness programs on available job opportunities in industries and available skills training courses in state and private training institutions, reduce low-skilled labour migration and increase skilled labour migration, facilitate access to available financial and other services such as business development advisory for returnees.

About 215 participants and seven leading companies participated at this program. The motivation awareness presentation was delivered by the expertise under the topic of industrial skills requirement, available job opportunities and available training courses under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC). The chief guest Media Secretary for Ministry of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs Lawrence Madiwela delivered a speech on the labour force requirement of tourism industry. NHRDC Director Dr. K.A. Lalithadeera, NHRDC Asst Director S. Thanigaseelan and other officers also actively participated at this event. TVEC Acting Director Manjula Vidanapathirana and Psychological Counsellor and Motivational Speaker Danuka Sirinama delivered the session to raise awareness among the target groups.

Seven companies at this program contributed their support to make aware the job availability and skills requirement: Aitken Spence, Richard Peiris, Tasma, MAS intimates, Leaders Travels & Tours Ltd., DPL and Sadaharitha Plantation.
