Advocata Institute discussion on ‘Gender Discriminatory Labour Laws in Sri Lanka’

Colombo-based think tank Advocata Institute is hosting an event on the topic of ‘Gender Discriminatory Labour Laws in Sri Lanka’ and the surrounding policy issues today, 5 March at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo (Longdon).

The event will feature a discussion by a panel of experts on various issues surrounding gender discriminatory labour laws in Sri Lanka.  

The panellists will be 

Minister of Justice M.U.M. Ali Sabry, Department of Labour Women and Children Affairs former Commissioner of Labour Madhavie Gunawardena, Verite Research Deputy Head of Legal Research Malsirini De Silva and Fonterra Human Resources Business Partner Kanishka Paternott. The discussion will be moderated by Sathya Karunarathne, a researcher from the Advocata Institute.  The Advocata Institute is hosting this panel discussion in celebration of International Women’s Day. By organising this event it looks forward to creating awareness of the working conditions of women in Sri Lanka. This discussion will explore barriers posed by labour laws that restrict women’s ability to enter and remain in the workforce. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is on invitation only. In-person seating is limited with strict COVID-19 guidelines. The online panel discussion will be hosted on Zoom (English Translations will be available) and also live-streamed on Advocata Institute’s Facebook Page.
