President opens 75-bed epilepsy hospital, 90% sponsored by Saudi Fund for Development

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena opened a 75-bed epilepsy hospital, which is 90 percentage funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD). 

The SR 3,490 million, eight-storey hospital consists of a surgical theatre, an intensive care unit, a high-dependency unit, 75-bed male and female wards, and an auditorium for capacity building for the country’s medical staff.

The SFD recently financed an additional SR 680 million to buy all necessary equipment including a CT scanner, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment, physical therapy devices and medical furniture.

A four-member SFD delegation took part in the event. Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, State Minister A.H.M. Fowzi, Deputy Minister of Health Faizal Cassim, the Saudi team comprising Fawzi Al-Saud, Director General of Operations; SDF delegation, Saudi Embassy in Colombo and Health Ministry officials and medical directors participated.
