A new medical insurance scheme that will reimburse up to Rs. 50 million in hospital bills has been launched by Ceylinco Life in response to the rapidly escalating costs of hospitalisation in Sri Lanka.

Branded ‘Health Support Plus’ (HSP), the new policy, which is sold with a life insurance policy or may be added on to an existing life policy, offers annual cover starting from Rs. 200,000, the life insurance market leader said. It covers medical bills pertaining to hospitalisation of 24 hours or more, as well as for 142 types of day-care surgeries such as lithotripsy, coronary angiography, haemodialysis, radiotherapy for cancer and operation of cataract and includes childbirth, the company announced.

The policy covers costs of hospitalisation in Asian countries such as Singapore, India, Malaysia and Thailand for policies above Rs .1 million, and offers worldwide cover excluding the USA and Canada, for policies of Rs. 15 million or more.

In-patient cover encompasses nurse and room charges including ICU, surgical fees, operating theatre charges, cost of doctors, consultations, medicines, equipment and the like. The policy also reimburses pre and post hospitalisation expenses, ambulance expenses and organ donor expenses, and pays a daily allowance for hospitalisation in government hospitals.

One of the most attractive features of Ceylinco Life’s Health Support Plus policy is a “re-fill” benefit under which the Company undertakes, without any increase in premium, to settle one more claim up to the value of the policy in the course of the year for a policyholder who has already used up his or her policy. This ensures that the policyholder enjoys adequate cover for the year.

It also includes a ‘no claim bonus’ feature that increases the basic annual guaranteed cover by 25% each year that there are no claims made. Additionally, policyholders are eligible for a free health check-up once in every three years that no claims are made.

Customers who have another medical insurance policy or are agreeable to bear hospitalisation costs up to a pre-agreed amount, can enjoy the security offered by Health Support Plus with a deductible option the plan has to offer, and benefit from lower premium payments.
