World Music Day spotlights Sri Lankan talent of all genres

World Music Day 2019 was recently celebrated with a large number of ardent music lovers at The Kingsbury’s CE LA VI Rooftop. The event connected music lovers in Colombo with 45 artistes who performed with passion and soul. The repertoire of performers included DJs, vocalists, drummers, guitarists, bands, saxophonists and beatboxers who shared one stage in an unforgettable evening of music comprising ’70s retro classics, ’90s dance tunes, funk, old school R’n’B and deep house, taking the audience on a musical journey to remember.

The entire line-up combined a blend of well-known names and budding talent such as Bands, Watarauma, Band OiC with Greg, The Notion, The Odyssey, Ricky Baha and The Legacy. Vocalists Shehani & Thilini, Blaze Beatboxers, Harshana Saxophonist, DJ Haren, DJ Shailesh, DJ Basecraft, DJ Thanujika, DJ Migara, DJ Clifford Issac, DJ Bunty, DJ Ricardo Deen DJ Tim, DJ Neco, DJ Shiyam, DJ Jayy Vibes, DJ Teish, DJ Ramal, DJ Praveen Jay, DJ Shiran D, and DJ Bryce, who all came together to spread nothing but good vibes through their music.

“We wanted to give our guests a distinctive musical experience by celebrating this international event in Sri Lanka, whilst providing a platform for Sri Lankan talent through the celebration of World Music Day,” said Hayleys Leisure Managing Director Rohan Karr. “Sri Lanka is rich in musical talent of all genres, be it vocalists or instrumentalists, and this event brought to light quite a number of promising stars.”

The event was topped-off with the inimitable CE LA VI mixology, Modern Asian cuisine and stunning views of the Colombo skyline. The event commenced at 5 p.m. and the smooth tunes continued to fill the skyline till 2 .a.m to a captivated audience. 

WMD is all about free music on the streets and has been celebrated since 1982 in over 120 countries and 700 cities around the world. The beauty of this international celebration is that it provides a platform to showcase both hidden and well-known musical talent, and has both amateur and professional musicians performing side by side in perfect harmony.
