Passion turned into a journey, Rust Diaries is a line of naturally dyed, meticulously handcrafted wearable art.

Everything that is used to create these wearable art at Rust Diaries is either recycled or once loved. They use natural dye sources like plants, herbs, minerals and rust to dye the fabric. 

Almost all of the materials are pre-consumer cutting room scraps or clean waste from other businesses. Each product is designed and created one piece at a time with much love and patience. 

The gentle earthy colours and soft lush designs are captivating and undoubtedly one-of-a-kind. 

Rust Diaries turns trash into treasure and things to fabulous art, like magic!

An empowering community transformation

Rust Diaries is breaking the cycle of extreme poverty through sustainable job creation. 

Our seamstresses, artisans, helpers and their families were previously trapped in extreme poverty. Now they are empowered to earn a stable, healthy income through dignified work. This is the basis for a brighter future, built on a hand up, not a hand-out.

Founder Shriwanthi Amarasinghe is a computer engineer by day, an aspiring world changer by night. Shri is a self-taught natural dyer and a textile artist. For her, Rust Diaries is way of pursuing her love for art and fashion with sustainability in mind. 

With environment as an inspiration and nature as her guide, Shri believes that “in a world of excess, innovation comes not just in designing something new and different, but also by designing something new and different with things that are thrown away.”
