Perfectly located in the Nawala/Rajagiriya area, away from the busy and noisy streets of Colombo, is a cosy coffee joint, Coffee Rooms, dedicated to creating a space for working parents and a safe and fun place for kids. A space is dedicated to versatility, the catchphrase of the café is ‘meet, work, lounge and play’.

Apart from the standard coffee shop on the ground floor, the space is furnished with two meeting rooms, well-equipped with projectors, a conference table and chairs; a couple of workspaces, one just by the kids’ play area; and a clean and safe jungle gym for kids on the first floor.

Complemented by good food and great coffee, Coffee Rooms is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends, bringing in an ambience of a cosy café with an idea-inspiring feel for its workspaces as well as a go-crazy vibe for the kids’ play area.

Besides the aromatic warm coffee choices, Coffee Rooms specialises in cold coffee beverages, specifically chilled Hershey’s coffee, thought out to combat the warm weather. Complete with appetising and crunchy hot finger food, desserts, signature coffee drinks and a delicious dinner menu, it is a one-stop-shop to unwind, relax and enjoy for people of all ages.

We had the pleasure of munching on some carefully-selected finger food along with a couple of their signature drinks at the launch that was thoughtfully set up at tea-time, on 14 March. The place, with an Instagrammable outlook of a naked brick wall carrying their logo and name, is right by the side of the road and easily located.

The crowd favourite was the cheesy pasta that was presented in a little bowl. It was creamy and was generously sprinkled with parmesan cheese. The prawns on skewers followed suit in taste and presentation, with the bright colours of bell pepper and spring onions complementing the orange hue of the prawns, the skewers were gone as soon as they arrived at our tables. They also served a choice of mini-burgers, veg and non-veg alike, and they were pleasant to the eye and very filling.

Though not a fan of cinnamon, my experience eating their cinnamon roll decorated with cream cheese and a slice of strawberry was a pleasant surprise. It had the perfect cinnamon flavour complemented well with the soft mild taste of cream cheese and the crunchy fresh strawberry slice.

The signature drinks for the evening, the caramel syrup coffee and the chocolate-chip milkshake, were refreshing and fitting for the warm evening and didn’t disappoint.

All in all, wrapped in the aroma of coffee and surrounded by good company, it was delightful to have spent the evening at the Coffee Rooms.
