Internationally-recognised Diploma in IT (Software Engineering and Networking) offered by British Computer Society, The Chartered Institute for IT, was mapped to Level 6 of NVQ recently. This opens the BCS Diploma holder to a range of career pathways both nationally and internationally. This also makes NVQ Level 6 completed students eligible to apply for exemptions into BCS Higher Education Qualifications.

The National Vocation Qualification framework, commonly known as NVQ framework, is a nationally-recognised system, introduced in 2005 for granting of tertiary and vocational education awards, including certificates and other academic distinctions. NVQ is a seven-level qualification framework and is generally a package of competency units to suit THE requirements in a particular occupational position in the job market.

Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 of NVQ are equivalent to a National Certificate level qualification. Level 5 and 6 are equivalent to National Diploma and Higher National Diploma level qualifications respectively. Level 7 is a Bachelor’s Degree equivalent qualification. Students who complete Level 7 can apply for a variety of postgraduate programs.

The Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), under the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training recently granted NVQ Level 6 equivalence to the Diploma in IT (Software Engineering and Networking); part of the Higher Education Qualifications offered by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.

BCS Higher Education Qualifications provide you with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in a career in IT. Simultaneously, the Higher Education Qualifications put you on the path to obtain Chartered IT Professional status; a global benchmark for IT that enhances your career prospects and recognises you as an IT professional belonging to an international chartered body.

Upon completion, students can continue to the BCS Professional Graduate Diploma in IT (PGD); the topmost level of the BCS Higher Education Qualification hierarchy, UK academic Level 6, which is UK degree level.
