The winning futsal team of John Keells Holdings (JKH) recently savoured a lifetime opportunity at Liverpool Anfield, courtesy of the Standard Chartered Bank.

Having emerged as champions of the SC Cup 2019, a competition for customers of the Standard Chartered Bank, the seven-member JKH team participated at a training session at the Liverpool FC Academy as well as enjoyed a tour of the Anfield Stadium followed by witnessing the blockbuster Premier League clash between Liverpool FC and Manchester City.

Goals from Fabinho, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a thrilling 3-1 win over champions Manchester City in an exciting game of soccer. Liverpool on Saturday won 2-1 at Crystal Palace to move 12 points ahead of the champions.

The Standard Chartered’s five-a-side futsal tournament, the SC Cup 2019 was held in June at the Racecourse Grounds with 17 client teams representing the Commercial and Global Banking businesses participating. JKH won the competition and the opportunity to tour United Kingdom and enjoy the Anfield experience.

The JKH team comprised Lahir Muhammad Nabeel, Seimon Yolan Roncarl, Singhawansa Mohomed Hishan, Haariz Mohamed Atif, Siriwardena Mahanama Ruvinya, Valentine Russel Devin Joseph and Azmy Mohamed Azeem. They were accompanied by Standard Chartered Bank’s Associate Director Praveen Karunaratne and Head of Corporate Affairs/Brand and Marketing Sanjeewani De Silva.

The JKH team members confirmed it was a “lifetime” opportunity for them to have been trained at Anfield and witness live a Premier League match in front of over 60,000 vocal fans from both Liverpool and Manchester City.

This opportunity was made possible by the longstanding global sponsorship between the Standard Chartered and the Liverpool Football Club. The bank’s sponsorship agreement was renewed last year, making 2019 the ninth year as partners.

The SC Cup 2019 was for the fourth year and the Anfield opportunity is part of the bank’s commitment to offer the best experiences to its Sri Lankan clients using the strength of global sponsorship.

Past winners of SC Cup were MAS Active Trading (Kreeda Division), Expolanka Group and WNS Global Services. Here are some highlights of the JKH team’s tour of Liverpool at Anfield.
