The Sri Lanka Muslim Civil Society (SLMCS) on Saturday hosted an open Ifthar, ‘Break Fast at Sunset,’ at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) lawn. This open air break fast hosted over 1,000 people from all walks of life, irrespective of race, religion, gender or ethnicity. Organisers said in view of the tragic events of Easter Sunday and the repercussions that followed, the coming together of people to say a prayer and to remember those who have left us and those adversely affected are what motivated this break fast. The event was aimed at fostering better relations and unity between the communities, it will also highlight the manner in which fasting promotes peace, charity and compassion between people. The event was a cordial effort by the SLMCS which comprises likeminded Sri Lankans driven to fostering harmony between all communities, emphasising on the importance of ‘humanity beyond religion’ – Pix by Samantha Perera
