The 70th Independence Day celebrations were held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Galle Face yesterday. The theme of this year’s celebrations was ‘One Nation’. The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward and Countess of Wessex Sophie Rhys-Jones represented Queen Elizabeth II at the celebrations. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Chief Justice, ministers and parliamentarians, governors, chief ministers, Secretary to the President Austin Fernando, public servants, ambassadors, foreign dignitaries and many others graced the occasion Pix by -Shehan Gunasekara and Sudath Silva
