The Government last week decided to award a 400-unit middle income housing project costing Rs.6 billion to the Yanjian Group.

The group offered the lower of two successful bids in a National Competitive Bidding process carried out last year, with a variation of 73.12% from engineering estimates, compared to the second bidder Maga Engineering, which was 34% above the state estimate.

The awarded project is to design, construct and finance 400 middle income housing units in Thalawathugoda. According to Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka, the project will be financed through proceeds from the pre-sale of housing units, and Government funding is allocated for the project.

Seven companies responded to the call for bids for the job - China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Corporation (CJIC), CML-MTD Construction Ltd, Nawaloka Construction Company Ltd., Maga Engineering Ltd, China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd, Access Engineering Plc and Yanjian Group Ltd..

However, five bids were rejected by the Technical Evaluation Committee and Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee due to their non-compliance with the terms and conditions of the bid document.
