The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) yesterday to assist in rebuilding the tourism industry.

SLAITO also kicked off its ninth edition of ‘Sancharaka Udawa’ in Colombo yesterday, expecting it to help a tourism rebound. At the event SLAITO signed a MoU with the SLTPB to strengthen engagement and to allow further development of the tourism industry. Speaking at the event Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga applauded the determination shown by the tourism industry.

“Our tourism industry is very resilient, we have faced similar situations in the past and come back even stronger, it will be no different this time too. The mid to long term effects are not as bad as we anticipated,” the Minister said, whilst commending intensive promotional approach which the industry has taken by providing attractive packages to tourists.

“The Government has taken all necessary measures countrywide to provide security, especially to hotels and tourism sites,” he added. (MW)
