A total of 920 persons tested positive for dengue in May, the Epidemiology Unit stated.

The highest number of cases was reported from Kandy, where 156 persons tested positive, while 135 dengue patients were reported from Kurunegala and 116 from Colombo. A total of 19,940 persons have tested positive for dengue this year.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday met with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Dengue Prevention Task Force, Local Government heads, and health authorities to discuss dengue prevention measures to be implemented.

The President and Prime Minister had advised Governors and Local Government authorities to review health committee plans on a weekly basis.

It was noted, however, that dengue cases this year were low in comparison to previous years. Last year, 20,378 cases were reported between January and May, and 21,326 were reported during the same period in 2018.
