Pioneering business magazine LMD has announced that its ‘Sri Lankan Of The Year’ (SLOTY) for 2019 is former cricketing hero Kumar Sangakkara.

Paying tribute to Sri Lanka’s foremost brand ambassador, LMD says: “He is one of a handful of Sri Lankans whose eloquence stands out in any part of the world.”

LMD notes that Sangakkara is only the second Sri Lankan to win the annual award twice and he follows Sri Lanka-bhimanya Lakshman Kadirgamar, its first SLOTY.

Sangakkara’s second nomination is a tribute to his recent appointment as President of the Lord’s based Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) – the first foreigner to be invited to run cricket’s governing body.

It adds: “Kumar Sangakkara has worn the hat of Sri Lanka’s foremost image builder or brand ambassador for a decade and more, and inspired Sri Lankans from all walks of life, all ethnicities, all faiths and much more to keep their faith in our precious land.”

“We’re inclined to say that if not the world, LMD’s 2019 Sri Lankan Of The Year has changed his country like few others have done – and may he go for strength to strength… for the sake of Mother Lanka,” LMD concludes.

Its publisher, Media Services, says the print version of the pioneering magazine will be released to leading bookstores and supermarkets during the course if this week. For the full story, log onto LMD’s website (www.LMD.lk).
