Kishu quits Chevron after long stint

Popular corporate personality Kishu Gomes has resigned from Chevron Lubricants Lanka Plc after a 22-year stint at the multinational giant.

Kishu told Daily FT he was taking a break from a highly-engaged corporate life and would explore new options in the coming months. However he confirmed that he was keen to spend more time in helping nurture young talent in the country and make them more dynamic. 

Kishu is likely to expand his social engagement as part of giving back what he has learnt and earned in his 33-year career working with multinationals.  

He has been a popular option as a judge for various reality shows on TV.

Kishu joined Chevron 22 years ago in 1997 and rose steadily to become the first Sri Lankan Managing Director/CEO of the lubricant giant in 2001 after being appointed to the Board in 2000. Previously Kishu worked with Coca-Cola.

A Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, he holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, UK.

He was a Past President of the American Chamber of Commerce and held the position of Senior Vice-Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK local branch.

Amongst many awards won by Kishu are the two inaugural awards Marketer of the Year awarded in 2001 and Best Young Director of the Year Award in 2003. He was also winner of the prestigious TOYP Award, Most Outstanding Young Persons in Sri Lanka in 2003 for Business Leadership and won the Pinnacle Award as the best Business Leader in the Large category in Sri Lanka in 2004 from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK, Sri Lanka branch.

He was a Vice Patron of the Institute of Automotive Engineers, Sri Lanka. Kishu was a past President of Lanka Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS and sits on the Board of the Sri Lanka AIDS Foundation too.

Following Kishu’s resignation, Chevron announced that Chairperson Rochana Kaul would act as MD/CEO. Singapore-based Kaul is the General Manager of Chevron Lubricants Asia/Pakistan region.
