  • Officials arrested after High Court revoked earlier bail order by lower court
  • AG sought revision on Magistrate Court’s bail order
  • Both face charges of negligence of duty which led to Easter attacks

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando were remanded till 23 October by the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday after the High Court revoked bail granted to them previously by the Magistrate Court.

Jayasundara and Fernando were taken into custody after their bail was revoked and later produced before the Magistrate Court and remanded.

The HC ruling came after the Attorney General sought a revision of the bail order of the two men who are charged by the Attorney General over their failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.

The Magistrate Court had earlier granted them bail citing lack of evidence.
